Esquina Tango hosts Charanga Cakewalk concert in Austin February 10th; Charanga Cakewalk will be part of the SXSW 2012 Music Showcases in March

The Esquina Tango Cultural Society of Austin is a non-profit organization that has been striving to build a community in East Austin, and beyond, through a variety of artistic ways in the intimate venue nestled among the homes to the city’s Hispanic families. The emphasis is on Latino heritage and promotes an understanding of the Latino culture through the creative arts- music, dance, film and more.

On Friday, February 10th, 2012, Esquina Tango presents a special concert with Austin based Charanga Cakewalk, fronted by Michael Ramos, from 9 pm to 1 am. Ramos is a spectacular musician, composer, producer and scores music for various films and is a top recording session player on the scene in Austin. He incorporates elements of varied genres, cumbia, Latin percussion and traditional Mexican grooves into dynamic cutting-edge electronica. He has two CDs, ‘Loteria De La Cumbia Lounge,’ (2004) and ‘Chicano Zen,’ (2006) both of which incorporate electronica and traditional instrumentation. Michael's latest release, entitled ‘El Brown Recluse’ was available for purchase in August 2011, when Michael Ramos and Charanga Cakewalk performed an Original Live Score at the Paramount Theater for a film by Gabriel García Moreno, ‘El Tren Fantasma.’

‘El Brown Recluse’ features Yayo Serka on drums and percussion, Max Baca on bajo sexto, and David Garza, Ceci Bastida and Sahara Smith. The Austin Chronicle describes them as: “Latin rhythms, bending, zapping, and shape-shifting to create a blazingly distinctive sound.”

The SXSW website lists Charanga Cakewalk as part of the music showcases next month and the details for date and time are pending. www.sxsw.com
