Last Night of the Mexican Film Series at the Bob Bullock Museum

The Consulado General de México en Austin and the Bob Bullock Museum have been co-hosts to the Mexican Cinema Series since March 30th. Feature films have been screened at The Spirit Theater in the museum for free and attendees also have the opportunity to view the current exhibit, Arte en la Charrería: The Artisanship of Mexican Equestrian Culture between 6pm to 7:30pm for no fee prior to attending the film for the evening.

I have only missed one of the four films offered during this series and have completely enjoyed the experience. The exhibit is absolutely awesome and beautiful. It will remain until June 5th.

Today is the last of the films, La Virgen Que Forjó Una Patria (The Saint that Forged a Country, 1942), a sweeping epic. It starts at 7:30pm.

The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum is located at 1800 N. Congress in Austin, Texas.

Austin based group Texas Wranglers has song in the film Everything Must Go

Everything Must Go is the feature length film starring Will Ferrell, in theaters as of May 13th. The film has an Austin connection with the music in the film. Among the songs used for the film is 'El Amor Que Soñe' by Julian Fernández and is performed by the Texas Wranglers.

You will hear the song played during a restaurant scene and is played entirely (3:13).

This drama is a change for Will Ferrell from his latest film projects and is in various theaters in Austin, including the Arbor Cinema, Barton Creek Square (AMC), Tinseltown South and the new Violet Crown Cinema, 434 W. 2nd St. where you can have free garage parking with validation.

Congratulations to the award winning Texas Wranglers!

Director Carmen Marron's Go For It! in theaters now

Go For It! was screened during the 14th Annual Cine las Americas International Film Festival in April 2011 and subsequently opened in theaters on May 13th across the nation.

In Austin, it is at Regal Metropolitan 14 and today's time for the feature is 4:45pm, 7:25pm and 10:10pm!

In Texas, the film also continued in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Edinburg, McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville, Weslaco and Houston. Check your local listings and support the independent filmmaker's work. It is a big deal for an independent filmmaker to receive distribution of their film across theaters in the nation.

I believe in being supportive of those who have a career in the arts. Won't you join me?

The Lincoln Lawyer still in theaters

The Lincoln Lawyer was released in theaters in March about the time we were all out for Spring Break and/or covering the SXSW 2011 Film Festival. I do not believe it was screened as a promotional or press screening at the time, but this film has remained in theaters ever since!

I made it a point to go see the film starring Mathew McConaughey, Ryan Phillipe, Michael Peña and John Leguizamo while it is still on the big screen. I do not regret seeing it and despite other's negative opinions on certain performances, this is not the case in this film.

I highly recommend not missing this film. You have a good drama with a good dose of humor that is not slapstick by any means. Today's listing for Tinseltown South is 4:25pm and 10:25pm.
Enjoy!

Films on DVD and Blue Ray release for May 24th

Director D J Caruso

Guillermo Navarro, director of photography with cast members

Two to watch out for are 'I Am Nunber Four' and 'Gnomeo & Juliet' will be available for purchase on May 24th. Each film had a theatrical release earlier this year when it was pretty cold, so in case you missed them, you have another chance to see them on the big screen!

Cinemark Movies 8 in Round Rock has each one of these in their theater this week, at least until the 19th. They even have 'Gnomeo & Juliet' in 3D too! Call them at 512-388-2848 for more details!

Look on the http://www.trueviewreviews.net/ website for details about the films and the interviews I have for each film.

Wine Down Wednesday features Charanga Cakewalk on May 18th

One of my favorite Austin bands is Charanga Cakewalk, with talented musician and producer Michael Ramos in the lead.

Wine Down Wednesday is a free event from 5-7pm where you can sample goodies and listen to great music from this great group that keeps your body moving with their great sounds.

For more information on the event, visit www.acl-live.com/calendar/2011/5/wdw-charanga-cakewalk

The film stars Alexa Vega, Kuno Becker, Wilber Valderrama, Adriana Barraza and many other stars.
