The Austin premiere of SongTasting® an intimate evening of music, food, and wine featuring Myrna + The Bulldog (aka, Austin-based singer/songwriters Myrna Cabello & Daniel Cook.)

Part concert, part conversation, part wine tasting—a SongTasting® is an eclectic event featuring Myrna + The Bulldog performing songs from their combined musical “vintages.” The inaugural sommelier for the premiere is Sam Hovland of East End Wines (see links below). Hovland will pair specially selected wines that reflect the spirit of the evening’s music. The premiere SongTasting® is the first of a series. Additional performances are planned for March 15, and April 19, 2012.

SongTasting® was conceived by Cabello and Cook after realizing that doing gigs in Austin bars didn’t quite fit their style and more importantly, that of their fans. They decided to take the time to actively think of new and innovative ways to embrace and grow their audience.

“When I started thinking about our core fans I noticed that they were aged 35 and up, usually with kids and nine-to-five careers,” Cabello said. “They didn’t want to go out to a bar at midnight. The next thing I noticed was that our audiences paid attention to lyrics—they wanted to talk about the songs and find out how they came about.” Working with that knowledge, Cabello and Cook conceptualized and hosted several test performances in their home and then for invited audiences in larger venues throughout 2009 and 2010. The enthusiastic response inspired them to create a full-length performance accented with video and conversation. Not as formal as a traditional concert, and a far cry from the boisterous club scene, a SongTasting® is more akin to a listening room experience. Each performance creates an atmosphere that celebrates music and invites audiences inside the creative process, while experiencing the pleasure found in a nice glass of wine.

While non-alcoholic beverages will be available, SongTasting® is recommended for adult audiences. Ventana del Soul's Chef Rene will prepare the evening’s tasty hors d'oeuvres.
