SXSW FILM ANNOUNCES FIRST ROUND OF 2012 PANELS; 'Drive' Composer Cliff Martinez to Speak

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival announced the first batch of confirmed sessions for the 2012 Conference. Early highlights include a Conversation with Cliff Martinez, the composer of Drive’s hypnotic score and the return of the crowd favorite, Jeffrey Tambor’s Acting Workshop. Also announced were nearly 40 of sessions culled from proposals submitted via the SXSW PanelPicker™ interface, plus 14 Convergence sessions, which cover topics that bridge the gap between the worlds of Film and Interactive.

Cliff Martinez began as a drummer for several bands during the punk era including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, and the Dickies. It was during his tenure with the Chili Peppers that Cliff began exploring the new technologies eventually guiding him towards film music. Martinez was hired to score Steven Soderbergh’s first theatrical release sex, lies, and videotape, leading to a longstanding relationship which includes Kafka, The Limey, Traffic, Solaris and 2011’s Contagion. His credits also include Narc, The Lincoln Lawyer and Nicolas Refn’s Drive.
“Each year, our Film Conference combines the best of traditional conference elements – film panel essentials on filmmaking, funding, and distribution – with what’s most exciting in the worlds of Interactive and Music, an immersion experience only available at SXSW,” said SXSW Film Conference and Festival Producer Janet Pierson. “We’re particularly thrilled with how well our PanelPicker interface
harnesses the intelligence and passions of our creative community to help define the most interesting and relevant topics of the day.”
