Austin Tejano Music Coalition (ATMC) Host to CANTA Auditions Today

The Austin Tejano Music Coalition (ATMC) is hosting the CANTA Tejano Idol contest auditions today at Jovita's in Austin, with contestants attending to have their spot on stage to sing a song and be filmed.

Austin's television station, KEYE, came to the site and filmed ten year old Kiana Mode from Plugerville. Hays ISD student, Devin Banda, also auditioned and anticipate more to come.

Del Castillo has the Austin CD Release Party April 28th 2012

Del Castillo released a Special 2-Disc CD/DVD set, Infinitas Rapsodias, in mid March and started a worldwide tour, starting in Europe to promote the special 2-disc set that also includes a 5-track bonus DVD, all shot in HD.  The band schedule was to start in Zurich and end in Berlin on March 25.

Infinitas Rapsodias showcases five brand new Del Castillo songs, as well as newly-created versions of several tunes from previous CDs that have become fan concert favorites and have taken on a whole new life of their own with different arrangements and instrumentation. These include “Brotherhood,” “Vida,” “Porque” and “Perdoname.” Demonstrating their global appeal, the band has even included a new take on their popular song, “Maria,” only this time with a vocal in Italian.

The audio CD features the band with such favorite Austin artists as guitarist Monte Montgomery, singers Malford Milligan and Leann Atherton, and violinists/gypsy fiddlers Erik Hokkanen and Phoebe Hunt. It also includes a song featuring producer and pianist Carl Thiel, and closes with the powerful duet, “Amor Venme a Buscar,” performed by acclaimed German opera diva, Anna Maria Kaufmann, and Del Castillo lead singer, Alex Ruiz. Infinitas Rapsodias was recorded at Smilin’ Castle Studio in Kyle, Texas, and produced primarily by Rick and Mark del Castillo.

The high-definition DVD includes a behind-the-scenes, up-close-and-personal look at the making of the entire project. It also features a video for the new song, “Canta de Alma,” which was shot by the band while on tour in Europe in 2011 and directed/edited by Mark del Castillo. Other DVD tracks include three studio jam session performance videos of Del Castillo favorite cover songs: the Doobie Brothers classic, “Listen to the Music;” the Louis Armstrong chestnut, “What a Wonderful World” and a slamming guitar-driven rendition of George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” with special guest guitarist Monte Montgomery.

The Devil's Carnival is on tour and coming to a town near You!

There is still time for fans to catch this film experience while it is on tour. I had a last minute invitation to the screening at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, so I was unable to get the word out ahead of time to our viewers in the Central and South Texas area who may have considered it.

It was a totally different experience for me, as it contained quite a show ahead of the screening, including local talent who were willing to dress the part! Or shall I say, even undress to get the part to perform with fewer and fewer clothes on.

Fans were in abundance at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar that evening and it is the appropriate place for such a unique theater experience. I wholeheartedly appreciate the invitation, as I may not have known about it and seen such unique storytelling and costumes. Fantastic Fest 2012 here we come!!

With the worldwide focus on Earth Day, vocalist, songwriter, instrumentalist and storyteller Azul Barrientos will continue her monthly concert series by targeting a vital aspect of the environment – water and specifically rain. On Saturday, April 21 at 8pm at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, 922

San Pedro, Azul will entertain us with soulful songs about rain that are infused with her own unique inflections and

interpretations.

With an inbred love for music Azul is a professionally trained musician and is artist in residence at the Esperanza Center.

Unexpected collaborations with other professional musicicans often surprise the most seasoned Azul follower. Join us as we anticipate a new surprise from the often playful Azul.

While rain can be life giving, nurturing and cleansing, music can be too. Too much rain can wash away houses, but Azul’s music can wash away the blues unless you want to hear her sing them.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced the date for the ¡Q’VIVA! THE CHOSEN LIVE show in Las Vegas and confirmed that they will perform alongside the artists they discovered on their hit TV show ¡Q’Viva! The Chosen, which draws over 30 million viewers weekly across the Americas.

Miguel Rodarte Se Estrena Como Productor En Estados Unidos

En una producción cien por ciento americana, con un equipo y elenco internacional, Miguel Rodarte incursiona una nueva aventura como actor y productor de una cinta que se rueda en la Gran Manzana.

Se trata de "El Cielo es Azul", una comedia sobre la amistad de dos juniors fresas y treintones, Oscar y Arturo (Miguel Rodarte y Osvaldo Benavides), que se van a Nueva York de vacaciones y son interrumpidos por las autoridades estadounidenses que los confunden con unos criminales terroristas.

Las cinta arrancó la tercera semana de Marzo en el bellísimo Hotel Americano, en donde se cerraron calles para poder rodar escenas cargadas de acción al estilo Hollywood que involucraron dobles. "El Cielo es Azul" se grabará también en el área de los Hamptons y cuenta con un equipo multicultural de primera categoría comenzando con el director Andrew Fierberg que ha producido mas de 30 películas (Secretary y Hamlet) y que ha trabajado con Nicole Kidman, Robert Downey Jr. y Jude Law. El director de fotografía es su hermano Steven Fierberg (Love and Other Drugs, Secretary y Entourage) sobre el cual Miguel Rodarte expresa sentirse "en las mejores manos".

Además están la actriz alemana Barbara Sukowa (Lola y Europa), el americano Reg Rogers (Runaway Bride y Analize That), y la modelo danesa Camilla Vest.

Sobre su estreno como productor Miguel comenta sentirse "profundamente satisfecho" con quien comparte créditos con el mexicano Juan Aura (Las Paredes Hablan) y Per Melita. "Es un proyecto que comenzó hace una año como un sueño y ahora se encuentra "completamente materializado" comenta Rodarte.

Esta es la segunda producción 100% estadounidense en la que el actor participa en menos de seis meses ya que el año pasado terminó de filmar The Mule bajo la dirección de la directora argentina Gabriella Tagliavini y donde comparte la pantalla con Sharon Stone y Billy Zane.

Antes de viajar a Nueva York, Miguel rodó un par de participaciones especiales en las películas "Colosio" con Kate del Castillo y "I Hate Love". A su regreso a México, Miguel espera comenzar las grabaciones de la segunda temporada de la serie "Los Héroes del Norte" mientras prepara otra producción cinematográfica para fines de este año.

Music in the Parks featuring Son De Rey with La Guerrilla

Free, Eclectic, Live Music The next Music in the Parks concert will feature Son De Rey with La Guerrilla from 4:30-6:30 pm on Wed, April 4 at the Dove Springs Recreation Center, 5801 Ainez Drive.

Son De Rey, one of Austin’s well-known Latin groups that combines Cumbia, Salsa and Tejano rhythms to craft their distinctive vibrant sounds, generates high energy performances filled with plenty of dancing. The band recently performed as a headliner for Austin Vida Free Week and has previously performed at PachangaFest and numerous venues around Austin.

Joining Son De Rey will be La Guerrilla, an eclectic international group from Texas, Peru, Jamaica, and Barbados that produce an energetic mixture of acoustic punk, ska and Latin folk. They have called Austin their home since 2000 and have performed at several festivals such as PachangaFest, Pan Americana Festival and Viva La Vida Fest.

The Music in the Parks series is a year-long concert series that provides free, live and diverse concerts to Austin’s music-loving community in parks citywide. Coordinated by the City's Music Division and Parks Department, the Music in the Parks series presents an eclectic range of genres, including conjunto, folk, soul, rock and country performances in park settings within Austin neighborhoods. Performances are free and appropriate for the whole family. All are welcome and invited to attend.
