Spring and Summer 2011 DVDs You May Have Missed

Spring and Summer was a really busy time for me with work projects, so I was not able to relax on the sofa as much as I would have liked to. Below, you will find quite a variety of films that had a theatrical release, long or short, but it is now available in the store for purchase. There are plenty of telenovelas that were released over the last few months, so if you missed a few episodes and want to catch up on the drama, look around to see if you find your favorites.

Es la nueva version de la telenovela venezolana, Mi Gorda Bella, que fue difundida en el 2002.

Cuenta con el elenco de Ariadne Diaz (Marianela), Valentino Lanus, Cesar Evora, Azela Robinson, entre otros.

Esta disponible en DVD y tiene subtitulos en ingles.

This was one of my favorite animated films earlier this year and I had the opportunity to view this in the Santiko Palladium Theater in San Antonio in the northwest area of town across from the La Cantera shopping mall. It was screened in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D, so it was quite the experience.

I think it has a good script and gives the family something to think about and discuss, particularly the role of the mother in the house/family. I suggest it for children of all ages, but the adults can enjoy it too.

Esta es una aventura intergalactica de un nino, Milo, cuando se da cuenta que su madre es sequestrada y se la llevan a la planeta de marte. Tiene un buen guion y pienso que es buena para platicar con los chicos sobre el rol de la madre en la familia, ademas, es buena para que la gozen los adultos tambien.

La interpretacion de los actores se realizo con la tecnica de captura y es muy divertido ver como se llevo a cabo las sequencias.

Cansada del abuso domestico de su esposo, la joven recurre a uno de los sacerdotistas de vudu locales.

'The Zombie Farm' was filmed in both English and Spanish and for 90 minutes, we see the effects of what happens after a young woman living with domestic abuse decides to consult the local vudu priest.

'REC 2' is the sequel to the international 'REC' film that was successful and was the inspiration for the U. S. made film, 'Quarentine.' Fans can now own it!
Director is Jaume Balguero and filmmaker/screenwriter is Paco Plaza, both helm each film, with the help of co-writer, Manu Diez. Julio Fernandez produces.

La pareja de ladrones que se nombran "Camaleones" son Sebastian (Alfonso Herrera) y Valentina (Belinda). Esta disponible en DVD y tiene sub-titulos en ingles. Tiene un gran elenco que cuenta con PeeWee como Ulisis Moran, entre otros. Tiene muchas aventuras, venganza , accion y mucho amor.

Esta es una serie colombiana que ha rompido records en los EU y cento y sud america.

This film screened at Sundance 2010 and is the winner of the World Cinema Audience Award: Dramatic category. It was Peru's submission to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film. It is written and directed by first time filmmaker, Javier Fuentes-Leon.

Contracorriente (Undertow) screened locally in Austin during Agliff 2010 and was a favorite during the festival and is still in demand. It played over 100 film festivals and garnered 39 awards. It also opened theatrically in 21 markets.

There are several bonus features included in the video release, including a Spanish language PSA with Sofia Vergara for GLAAD.

The film is in spanish with English subtitles.

This is the follow up to 'Furbar' released a number of years earlier. 'Furball: Balls to the Wall' was screened during SXSW 2011 Film Festival in Austin, with a subsequent release on DVD later in the Spring.
